Sabbatical
Okay, I really have no idea what happened to the time. I kept meaning to come back here and post but Life just kept getting in the way. However, my sabbatical is officially over. Since I last posted a lot has been going on, so I'll do my best to catch things up.
I completed my 2nd semester of grad school and after all the stress and worrying about a couple assignments, I ended up with an A. I really need to stop worrying so much.
My closest friend from my high school years got married in April. It was one of my favorite weddings thus far. I can't even begin to express how thankful I am that we managed to reconnect after several years of losing touch with each other. I was honored with the task of being a reader at the wedding (and with overseeing the leftover beer from the reception). I was initially concerned about not knowing very many people at the wedding, but Jim's friends made me feel welcome and a part of the group and I had a blast. I even worked up the courage to do some singing and some swing dancing (and no, I wasn't THAT inebriated).
I took major risk career wise and interviewed for a teaching position at a middle school. I just had been feeling increasingly frustrated at the elementary level and even though in a couple years if I had stayed at my present position would have enjoyed a brand new school building with a state of the art Art room; I heard about an opening at a middle school that sounding interesting and applied for it. I visited the school and met with many members of the staff and felt rejuvenated. It really seemed like they were on the cusp of something there and I felt like I wanted to be a part of it. I was interviewed and offered the job on the spot. I'm kinda anxious about the changes, but it's a good kind of anxiety. I hope I made the right decision and I'm gonna do my damnedest to ensure I did. I really want to take my teaching to the next level.
While we're on the subject of teaching, my spring semester of teaching Saturday morning Art classes at the Columbus College of Art & Design came to an end with our spring Student Exhibition. I was a little disappointed that my family couldn't make it due to some unusually snowy weather conditions (what is it this year with the snow?), but the students' work looked fantastic and the show was a huge success. I'll post a tour with the photos I took some other time.
Now, I'm facing the 3rd semester of grad school, another friend's wedding, the end of yet another school year, the prospect of having to pack everything up that's mine and move it out as I say good bye to the school I've devoted 7 years to, three weeks of teaching summer Art workshops, a cruise with my parents and my brother (we haven't taken a family vacation since I was in high school and we took our infamous trip to Florida--only years later do I laugh at that trip), and a visit from one of my closest friends later on in the summer.
As You can see, I will have a packed summer, which is good because I'll feel more productive (I gotta remember to do some painting too) but with it filled with so many activities, it will fly by very quickly.
Well, this concludes my update of what the hell happened to me lo these past couple months or so. Hopefully I won't allow so much time to sneak past me again.
